CAMP

On Monday the 5th of September we went to camp Ngamuwahine. When we got up there we unpacked and went to listen to Mr Hart he told us about the camp and what the rules were. When he was finished we went on a tramp it took 4 hours to do. When we all finished the tramp we had free time for about half a hour. Then we got called in. Room 30 had to get ready to cook there own meals my group and I cooked chicken on rice with spiders for dessert. My group was really excited to cook our own meals. We got marked for the taste, organisation, presentation, clean up and many more. My group came second we lost by one point.

On Tuesday when we all got up we had breakfast and then it was teachers choice day we did a lot of things like Fire Lighting was really interesting because my group learnt how to start a fire how to keep a fire going. The loop track was really fun we learnt all about native leaves and trees. Adventure Based Learning was fun because we played all sorts of games which I think was really cool and so did my group. Art was cool because we all had good fun but all of our hands got sore. When we finished that we had free time then had dinner. The Burma trail was next I was really excited and scared. I went with my Britney, Chontelle, Shelby and me  we all got really scared but we loved it! After that we went to bed.

On Wednesday when we all got up we were very excited because it was the activity days there were 8 activities altogether. (Archery, Mountain Biking, Kayaking, Raft Making, Orienteering, Abseiling, Rock Climbing, Low Ropes). We had to get into our activity groups in my group there was Kimberly, Tyce, Dave, Olivia, Zac, Jarrod and me. our first activity was Orienteering I got the fastest time it was 19 minuets and got 27 out of 30. then we went to Kayaking in the time trail my group was really good we all got a good time. Our fastest time was 1min and 17sec. Then Raft Making my group really like this one because we worked really well as a team. Lastly we did Low Ropes I didn't like this activity because I thought it was boring but it was funny when people were falling off!

On Thursday it was another activity day when we had finished our breakfast we got into our activity groups today we did first the Climbing Wall I got up to the top it was really fun then we did abseiling I went first that was really scary! Then My group and group 6 went on the flying fox it was awesome! It was so high I thought that I was going to fall off the platform. Then we went onto Archery I really sucked because on the first 3 rounds I only got the ground but I thought it was really fun! Lastly we were at Mountain Biking that was cool as but not when I nearly fell off. when we were finished those activities we went back and had free time.

On Friday it was a really cool but sad day because it was the last day. After we had breakfast we had to do a Scavenger hunt we had to find a Rimu leaf, Possum fur, a dead insect, a skeleton of a Mahoe leaf, a piece of rubbish, a weird shaped rock and lastly we had to build a team pyramid I n this activity we came last we didn't really like it. 13/9/11 Learning French

Today we had Jannis, a french and german teacher come into our class and teach us some french. We learnt how to say some words that we all use everyday in our conversations. Jannis is coming in again in two weeks to teach us a bit more french. We all look forward to seeing him again soon! The highlight for a lot of people today was learning how to say ' I love you" in french, and everyone had a big laugh at that.
Here are some examples of what Jannis taught us today:
Hello - Bonjour / Salut
Yes - Oui ( pronounced wee)
No - Non
Thanks - Merci
Please - S ' il vous plaƮt

Camp Cooking

Room 30 are heading off to Ngamuwahine Camp soon and today we organised ourselves into cooking groups because on the first night we will be cooking our own dinner. We had to plan a nutritious meal that is high in energy but would also be easy for us to cook on a camp cooker. We decided on a menu that included an entree, a main and a dessert. We will be getting marked on our meal and the best meal will win a prize up at camp. We had a lot of fun planning our meal and look forward to eating it!!!
Here are some pictures of each group planning their meal

For inquiry we did some work on decision making for Life Education and Drugs it was slightly funny at the start however we knew that we should not have been kidding around because it was a serious topic.
Maths we did how to get a fraction out of a whole number we also did some book work which some of us found easy.
The writing that we did was our next steps in our writing and maths. This is for our learning interviews.

Tuesday 2nd August

Today, we did maths and writing. For maths our class solves some problems like 1/3 of a number, equals ÷ by 3. In writing we learnt how to use personal pronouns in our descriptive writing. We have an international student from Japan come into our class for 1 month. Her name is Riko. Which is exciting because we get to learn some Japanese and we might get to do origami and learning how to write our names in Japanese.
Here are some pictures of our exciting day-

Week 3 - Instructional writing

Room 30 wrote some instructions on how to Brush our teeth. We then followed our buddy's instructions and realised how specific we need to be with writing instructions or else we can't follow them clearly!! Below are some photos of the children using their laptops in class.
